Highvale Sanctuary

Highvale Primary School took out the Community Award at the 2008 Monash World Environment Day Awards. This was for creating our "Highvale Sanctuary" to ensure that sustainability measures such as recycling, growing veggies, healthy eating and animal husbandry are taught to students.

The compound consists of:
  • a chicken and rabbit coop;
  • a frog pond;
  • a worm farm
  • compost bins; and
  • a rainwater tank.
We have also created a butterfly trail and have planted over 2,000 trees to attract native wildlife.

We have an active "Green Team" with student representatives from every class to continually improve environmental initiatives at the school.
