Physical Education and Sport

Physical Education is an essential component of each child's development.
At Highvale, our dynamic Physical Education teacher, Mr King teaches each child explicit fundamental motor skills through our comprehensive Physical Education/Sport program. Skills are taught through a fun, games based program which actively involves all students and caters for varying developmental needs. In addition all Prep students participate in a Fundamental Motor Program to assist the development of motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination in an active, fun environment. Highvale’s Fundamental Motor Program operates in a double classroom fully equipped with swinging ropes, trampettes, climbing apparatus and balance beams.

Senior pupils participate in weekly inter-school sport in football, netball, soccer, kickball, rounders, softball, teeball (modified softball) and Newcombe (modified volleyball).

Highvale has annual athletics and swimming sports in which children represent one of four house teams: Banksia, Acacia, Heath and Waratah. Students also enjoy annual inter-school sport in athletics, swimming and cross-country and some are selected to represent Highvale in regional and Victorian competitions.

Clinics and round-robin competitions are held in a variety of sports including; basketball, badminton, tennis and soccer.

All children also participate in an annual, intensive two-week swimming tuition program with trained instructors.
We also provide the "Active After-school Communities" program, providing FREE sport sessions after school twice a week. This program aims to target the traditionally inactive students at Highvale P.S. Students are involved in selecting the activities with some recent selections including; Triathlon, Circus-Skills, Badminton and Athletics.
