Next week we celebrate Cultural Diversity week which includes ‘Harmony Day’ on Wednesday 21st March.  At Highvale Primary School, I am proud to say that we have many students and parents from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds working side by side to help make our school a great place to be.  In order to enhance community harmony and promote respect and understanding of different cultures our students will participate in a number of activities next week.

Students from all levels will participate in different events planned by their teachers.  Some of the activities will include opportunities to:

·         learn about and play games from different countries

·         make a friendship band which is a traditional art developed in different parts of the world, given as a sign of friendship,

·         learn various greetings from different countries

·         make a multicultural mural

The week will conclude with a celebratory ‘Multicultural Costume Parade’ at 9.10am on Friday morning 23rd March.  Students are encouraged to dress in the traditional clothing of their cultural heritage and to make a decorative sign with the name of the country to carry at the parade (1 per family).  At the end of the parade these signs will be collected and displayed at school under the heading, ‘I am,You are, We are Australian’.
