Literacy and Numeracy Week – Come and Join Us

posted 25 Aug 2014, 17:45 by Highvale Administration
Literacy and Numeracy Week commences on Monday August 25th.  To celebrate all students will be actively engaged in a number of learning experiences throughout the week.
On Tuesday the 26th of August all Year 3-6 students will take part in a creative, problem solving Maths learning challenge. Prep- Year 2 students will complete the challenge on Wednesday 27th August.  Each class will use an interesting photo of something of their choice. They will be displayed in each classroom on the Interactive Whiteboard and the classes will then move around to other rooms to view the different photos. The student challenge will be to examine and use each photo as the inspiration to create a maths problem for their peers. Students will then have the opportunity to share and solve the problems together.

We will be including some of the photos and problems in the upcoming newsletters.  We hope that you enjoy them!

As part of Literacy celebrations, parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles of Prep-Year 2 students are invited to enjoy literacy games and activities followed by story time with the children on Thursday 28th August between 9.30-10.30am.

Our special guests are asked to bring a favourite story to read to their child which will be followed by an opportunity for some shared writing.

We are looking forward to opening our doors to our families and sharing an exciting morning of Literacy activities.

During the early part of Term 3, Year 3-6 students have been studying various types of poetry and figurative language.  To celebrate Literacy and Numeracy Week, students have chosen or written their favourite poems and prepared them for display around our school.   On Thursday 28 August from 10.30-11.00am, students will be reciting their poems to their classes.  Families and friends are invited to come along and listen to some of our students’ beautiful poetry.
